If I'm being honest, I can't recall a time in my life where I've witnessed so much hate and so much violence. All you have to do is turn on the TV or scroll through social media to see exactly what I'm talking about. The school shootings, people abusing their power to get what they want, and racist neo-nazis walking around with guns and shields spreading hate and violence. It's a scary and heartbreaking time we're living in.
When these things happen, it's easy for us to watch, be shocked at what we see, and then move on and forget about it. We might even write a post on social media to let everyone know where we stand. But what can WE ACTually do, besides typing or talking, to create change and hope for the future? For me personally, it starts with these 12 boys. I posted a quote from Bishop TD Jakes the other day where he said, "Hate is a learned behavior. This is why investing in children is vitally important. To not do so, will bankrupt the country of the intelligence necessary for all of our children and grandchildren to survive!" This quote moved me when I read it because in the past few years working with these boys, I know it to be true.
It doesn't matter where you live or what you do, the opportunities to bring change are all around you. The children of today and the generations that follow need to be invested in. They need to be heard and they need identity. But more importantly, they need to feel loved and accepted as well as learn and be shown what it means to love and accept others, regardless of their differences. I want to encourage you to do what you've never done before and get out there and ACTually do something in your communities that will bring hope & change to our broken world. How many more kids have to be killed for us to finally say, “enough is enough.”
WE ALL HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY!!!! Do Your Part.
