Have you ever had someone come into your life at a time when you needed them the most?  If you have, then you know how important this type of person can be for your development.  They could be a teacher, a coach, a friend, or really anyone who has helped you grow.  These types of people can also be called, MENTORS.

A mentor is someone who wants to make a positive difference in a young persons life.  They provide friendship, support, and wisdom in hopes of building up the confidence in the person they’re mentoring.

So there we were, down by 4 with 2 minutes left in game #6 of the season.  I called a timeout and brought my 9-10 year old boys basketball team over to the sideline for a last minute pep talk before the final 2 minutes of a very close and very competitive game.  I wanted to make sure they understood the game plan and that everyone was giving me 100%.  I did my best to encourage them and help them understand that we were still in this game!

My father was released from prison when I was 12 years old.  He had been out a few short months when he started dating a beautiful blonde woman who I’ll call Joan.

Joan was very nice and I could tell that her and my dad really enjoyed each other’s company.  I remember one night in particular when they both sat me down and told me that Joan was pregnant and I was going to be a big brother!

My new little brother was born and it was a very exciting time, especially for my Dad who had been in a prison cell for the previous 12 years.

But it wasn’t too long after this that I found out my Dad had been arrested again and was being sent back to prison...

There is a lot of fear when I think about starting a blog.  Fear of what others will think is a big one.  Is my writing good enough?  Will they understand what I’m trying to say?  I even thought that before I start my blog maybe I should take a creative writing class or something first.  That’s fear.

But instead of letting fear keep me from moving forward, I decided to get started.  Of course I want to get better at writing and with time I will.  But for now I will do my best at sharing my heart with you and hopefully what I write will encourage you or inspire you or at least put a smile on your face.  This is me overcom...
